It struck in the South China Sea off the west coast of Mindoro island at 2:23 p.m. local (0623 GMT).
# C% C- k8 n; B3 Z" qLocal seismologist Ismael Narag said the quake generated enough potential power to unleash big waves, but added that the authorities did not think it was capable of triggering a tsunami so Phivolcs issued no warning.
