The Square of 9 is probably W.D. Gann's most famous Master Chart. Many traders use" t% Z6 t7 g" h3 w4 L, D" I
this chart regularly as a primary trading tool. However, it is my personal belief that most
6 ~* d! B$ D) [; ltraders are only using a few simple techniques and are not fully utilizing the true potential7 E' v# q$ ?% `; E, c
of this multidimensional Master Calculator.

What is the Square of 9 The Square of 9 is basically a spiral of numbers starting with the
% o: t9 H5 Z& k0 R- Vnumber one in the center (or apex of the Great Pyramid) with the number 2 immediately
- s7 A3 J. F! L) t6 t: t6 Wto the left. The rest of the numbers spiral around the center in a clockwise fashion to the8 Y6 ]9 O7 {' X9 ]( N3 t
number 9, which completes the first cycle of numbers around the center. 10 through 25
/ |1 f1 c; h, m5 m7 [1 }; r1 acompletes the 2nd cycle, 26 through 49 completes the 3rd , etc… This particular( {# \1 u+ }2 y6 e# R* i2 @
arrangement of numbers creates a very unique square root relationship with other1 V( o# S5 |5 {/ q M
numbers on the chart. Michael S. Jenkins illustrates some interesting square root trading
, I) o3 P E/ `9 ttechniques utilizing the Square of 9 in his Gann Course and his book Chart Reading for
2 V& b8 n1 X& aProfessional Traders. Basically, if you want to move around the coordinates on the Gann
1 A# ~- A6 |* ]$ i6 l5 ~ UWheel you take the number you are interested in ( such as the all  High or Low price)( ]5 i" T" j, |* c
take the square root of the number, then add or subtract 2 from the root and resquare the
5 N3 _5 z# h0 A6 k1 Lresult. Example: Lets say that we are interested in the price 664 (which is in the vertical
# T' X& b, L$ F' y/ Q4 w7 f6 y& Jcolumn straight up from the center). The square root is 25.768 + 2 = 27.768^2 = 771
& G. M8 u3 e5 X, V2 c* V8 Ywhich is the number directly above 664 or one full 360 degree cycle out from center. If% u7 g( T9 G. P6 @* v" K# p& B
we subtracted 2 from the root and re-squared the number (25.768-2= 23.768^2 = 565 )* s% y T( V4 B$ R* C* t
we would get 565 which is directly below 664 or one full 360 degree cycle in towards
' d% a; e; z! C" W5 a) X0 k" Tcenter. Incorporating the Gann Emblem with this technique, allows us to calculate$ }+ I. R$ t, T
coordinates that are conjunct (360 = +/- 2 from the root), opposition (180 = +/- 1 from+ Q5 q% r9 C2 r- l" P4 K0 M
root #), trine (120= +/- .666) (240= +/- 1.333), square (90 = +/- .5) (270= +/- 1.5) and+ @: ~; @# ^, H, n" ?
sextile (60 = +/- .333) (300 = +/- 1.666).6 w; {9 S: X/ d( ]# h4 l- N

This technique is extremely useful for finding coordinate squares on the Gann Wheel that( s0 u" {% M5 D7 [( o
are making hard aspects to a previous position on the wheel. Also, Gann believed that the
! w+ A5 `9 }2 onumbers that connected the square base of the pyramid (the 4 corners of the square, i.e.
/ |: l1 x' Z6 _7 Lcorner #'s.) to the “gravity center” and also the numbers that ran straight vertical and0 s! }% ?2 O5 z) a3 {1 }" u
horizon tal from the “gravity center” in the form of a cross (cardinal numbers) were very5 t% R0 H; a& v4 M3 U" ?" l5 V
important in balancing “Price & Time” on the wheel. He was basically looking for8 a0 h% X m# x& K
astronomical longitudes to balance with price on these key angles. Pythagoras said “
* u0 o% u" B# r: d! M7 l! h2 e! F {Units in a circle or in a square are related to each other in terms of Price & Time at; j/ A: ]5 G& a; \- t9 H
specific points.” Gann often quoted the Bible, Emerson, Pythagoras and Faraday to name
9 R% X x# y1 X" j3 F$ ~a few. Basically, he was pointing the reader of his works to clues that would allow his
8 {: f! q& z# k& j" R$ ?( N5 pstudent to unlock the code of his writing style.

8 _$ f- _3 S* o8 L: ?Time around the outer perimeter of the Square of 9 is a circle with months and days. The
Y; I- ?- m6 Z- E* W+ ucircular calendar starts on the left-hand side of the wheel on the same horizontal line as( Z! \. ]9 Q; ], P& N: G1 d% h
the center block. The date is March 21st and refers to the start of the “natural” year in the9 y/ H& i$ L& k1 M8 n4 C
season of Spring with the Sun in Aries ^. “Lamb of God you take away the sins of the7 n/ u: C, Q+ G$ f0 z( d1 I. V
world” ( Spring takes away the sins of Winter). The dates move around the circle$ g u0 A3 q8 c) u* a$ N" i
clockwise completing the calendar. This relationship allows the user to quickly identify# Q& m! T5 \' Z9 V% h3 G3 h
dates that are Conjuct, Opposite, Square, Trine or sextile to a past calendar date relative
- `4 v& F s- I, Yto the Sun / Earth relationship.

* R S- O' W9 C( RIn Gann's Master Course for Stocks he said “ Within the circle forms the square, there is
' y( k' A# M6 Z5 yan inner circle and an inner square, as well as an outer square and an outer circle which
' G: [9 ~1 m/ j8 p6 e' G1 yprove the Fourth Dimension in working out price movements.” So far, we have covered
. d2 z- q& _1 z* X& y8 }the inner circle ( The Earth's Orbit around the Sun) and the inner square ( Historic high &% P; \( f5 [3 T3 @2 g# t. n
low coordinates on the square itself). The outer circle includes all of the planets and is the# R9 D1 f! x8 t0 b* X- ?
Zodiac starting at the left side of the square also on March 21st. Moving from this point( {) l0 x8 u8 p a" C6 k
clockwise in 30 degree sections of the circle will place all 12 zodiac symbols around the
2 i7 S7 |2 r% _9 j- k, E, ~wheel (^_`abcdefghi). This completes the outer circle and allows the analyst to examine
1 B+ ~: k! ]$ ?planetary longitude relationships to price coordinates on the Square of 9, which is now an3 o7 r* p+ v! Z$ l5 j
outer square. In this way, we can convert planetary positions to prices relating to degrees: G! s& o1 ~0 O+ Y/ D" O
of a circle (Zodiac longitude) and also to coordinates on the Square of 9. We can also. A4 r. a2 x5 W3 p0 Q. ?
examine hard aspects to both zodiac longitude and Square of 9 coordinates. Furthermore,

circle making them “Live Angles”! Is there any end to this multidimensional tool? Gann3 j, _% y5 A! f0 V7 r+ a
hinted about this natal horoscope technique in his Master Course for Stocks by saying “$ U3 r, N5 _: h/ y0 Z
The dates when companies are incorporated and the dates when stocks are first traded in
Z- U3 F+ {/ zon the New York Stock Exchange or the other exchanges causes them to make tops and; y" ^& E, c0 \/ U. e- U& v% e# W0 T
bottoms at slightly different dates then these dates for seasonal changes”. Gann also
