4 L# ^( q( E' c' Y" QWhat is the Square of 9 The Square of 9 is basically a spiral of numbers starting with the
5 Q4 _4 K9 F/ dnumber one in the center (or apex of the Great Pyramid) with the number 2 immediately) m8 n# x0 Q5 w6 P3 L/ i
to the left. The rest of the numbers spiral around the center in a clockwise fashion to the# P- A) z) E8 D0 Z5 I! x6 Z. r
number 9, which completes the first cycle of numbers around the center. 10 through 25" ^/ x4 K! V, V/ t! W0 |6 V
completes the 2nd cycle, 26 through 49 completes the 3rd , etc… This particular
9 e8 q1 c! H) L" r; N T! ?( Qarrangement of numbers creates a very unique square root relationship with other. I9 o4 L. N. N! Q7 W. G
numbers on the chart. Michael S. Jenkins illustrates some interesting square root trading
0 F- R+ P/ [) d1 P3 Gtechniques utilizing the Square of 9 in his Gann Course and his book Chart Reading for
( F/ J7 R2 X' D2 @0 p& p$ y& VProfessional Traders. Basically, if you want to move around the coordinates on the Gann- ^: K+ Y6 G6 `4 C! `9 Y$ {. f
Wheel you take the number you are interested in ( such as the all High or Low price)
8 F J6 m) E* o" p4 y; ~take the square root of the number, then add or subtract 2 from the root and resquare the
. M5 ]7 T% t) A! u, r- Z" r% {7 qresult. Example: Lets say that we are interested in the price 664 (which is in the vertical4 z/ W9 C/ a# ?# t* k" s
column straight up from the center). The square root is 25.768 + 2 = 27.768^2 = 771
' s+ J# u5 ?! z( Bwhich is the number directly above 664 or one full 360 degree cycle out from center. If% `' t! ~* o9 K
we subtracted 2 from the root and re-squared the number (25.768-2= 23.768^2 = 565 )4 W1 a& d0 b$ F! C* n. v1 E# E- X
we would get 565 which is directly below 664 or one full 360 degree cycle in towards# G& F" a/ w. [. ~7 M) Y
center. Incorporating the Gann Emblem with this technique, allows us to calculate4 \- Q3 u3 U0 |0 y! G
coordinates that are conjunct (360 = +/- 2 from the root), opposition (180 = +/- 1 from! U" }9 T+ z9 r
root #), trine (120= +/- .666) (240= +/- 1.333), square (90 = +/- .5) (270= +/- 1.5) and( ~- {( @; L, Y# {
sextile (60 = +/- .333) (300 = +/- 1.666).

This technique is extremely useful for finding coordinate squares on the Gann Wheel that: j7 }) S8 e+ u3 g0 i
are making hard aspects to a previous position on the wheel. Also, Gann believed that the! D5 y; g) `) w! B
numbers that connected the square base of the pyramid (the 4 corners of the square, i.e.9 e/ v3 F* |* ~/ e8 i
corner #'s.) to the “gravity center” and also the numbers that ran straight vertical and
4 r. a6 z3 V' n4 U; O2 Z+ p7 b' F) uhorizon tal from the “gravity center” in the form of a cross (cardinal numbers) were very/ y$ E: A6 K- A1 l5 q, u# X1 i" M
important in balancing “Price & Time” on the wheel. He was basically looking for
: }! }% N/ `) a0 k) W4 ^: h) G8 W2 S. castronomical longitudes to balance with price on these key angles. Pythagoras said “
' }2 n X4 ]& vUnits in a circle or in a square are related to each other in terms of Price & Time at0 ^: ^6 S e6 y3 Q3 d
specific points.” Gann often quoted the Bible, Emerson, Pythagoras and Faraday to name
( s* e& _3 S p9 j6 da few. Basically, he was pointing the reader of his works to clues that would allow his

circular calendar starts on the left-hand side of the wheel on the same horizontal line as `. d; I' |3 F) A3 k- D8 s3 T
the center block. The date is March 21st and refers to the start of the “natural” year in the
' n9 h2 `: p, h$ ?3 r& j2 Iseason of Spring with the Sun in Aries ^. “Lamb of God you take away the sins of the
' b- r. h# X7 E# Iworld” ( Spring takes away the sins of Winter). The dates move around the circle% E/ K% F# ^+ o2 R# y/ s9 n
clockwise completing the calendar. This relationship allows the user to quickly identify* i$ v" M7 F" u
dates that are Conjuct, Opposite, Square, Trine or sextile to a past calendar date relative
+ S' L" q/ ?& Y) B4 p" O) Wto the Sun / Earth relationship.

In Gann's Master Course for Stocks he said “ Within the circle forms the square, there is) H1 K& q6 ~* B# A" H$ [* a0 {
an inner circle and an inner square, as well as an outer square and an outer circle which
) G7 L/ D$ s: m# xprove the Fourth Dimension in working out price movements.” So far, we have covered9 P3 Y& S$ Q/ x) N" b6 t9 n# w
the inner circle ( The Earth's Orbit around the Sun) and the inner square ( Historic high &
: Z* a6 ]2 }9 J7 D0 o. alow coordinates on the square itself). The outer circle includes all of the planets and is the% B* ~* n0 A' A
Zodiac starting at the left side of the square also on March 21st. Moving from this point
5 W4 B4 ~2 x' B, a0 y) X8 aclockwise in 30 degree sections of the circle will place all 12 zodiac symbols around the- X! z% R0 G8 S4 J7 ?$ [% `: e, {
wheel (^_`abcdefghi). This completes the outer circle and allows the analyst to examine( k) x+ T+ k$ b' ^+ W5 z3 m
planetary longitude relationships to price coordinates on the Square of 9, which is now an
$ [+ i p5 o0 n! ?; H+ i$ houter square. In this way, we can convert planetary positions to prices relating to degrees' P. O# Q8 K9 d9 \( o2 s
of a circle (Zodiac longitude) and also to coordinates on the Square of 9. We can also

locate sensitive longitude positions that are being aspected by planets from the outer

volume and direction. All the essential qualities of its evolution are characterized in its
