The Square of 9 is probably W.D. Gann's most famous Master Chart. Many traders use

! r6 E2 K5 r$ Y6 ?What is the Square of 9 The Square of 9 is basically a spiral of numbers starting with the0 y# |) _; ?$ B: Z
number one in the center (or apex of the Great Pyramid) with the number 2 immediately
+ y, B: D$ _. C0 V& dto the left. The rest of the numbers spiral around the center in a clockwise fashion to the# d" a0 N6 r5 @5 \
number 9, which completes the first cycle of numbers around the center. 10 through 25) R8 Q7 f/ J$ B$ Y; |; b
completes the 2nd cycle, 26 through 49 completes the 3rd , etc… This particular5 F# P" i1 k2 G+ ~
arrangement of numbers creates a very unique square root relationship with other& T6 ] i6 r/ Y& K( _5 v
numbers on the chart. Michael S. Jenkins illustrates some interesting square root trading0 ^0 A* ]0 L6 F+ I% k( M! d7 k$ O
techniques utilizing the Square of 9 in his Gann Course and his book Chart Reading for& ]# c; z7 K% ~- q w+ q; s1 X
Professional Traders. Basically, if you want to move around the coordinates on the Gann7 u2 J# T/ Y8 H; \+ r
Wheel you take the number you are interested in ( such as the all  High or Low price)1 X0 G" r9 ~( e; h) D+ r
take the square root of the number, then add or subtract 2 from the root and resquare the
; r0 ^8 r" Q& v5 U* m. g0 Xresult. Example: Lets say that we are interested in the price 664 (which is in the vertical
) W: ]' f# Z6 Z; w0 W* Bcolumn straight up from the center). The square root is 25.768 + 2 = 27.768^2 = 771
( z7 @0 b4 [3 L) d$ D7 N. {* p* xwhich is the number directly above 664 or one full 360 degree cycle out from center. If# u' {* Y7 d" V; [0 Q% l9 o9 [
we subtracted 2 from the root and re-squared the number (25.768-2= 23.768^2 = 565 )) d x* m# N3 M A
we would get 565 which is directly below 664 or one full 360 degree cycle in towards
- w6 n4 V6 I* ^- ]( @- K- r1 fcenter. Incorporating the Gann Emblem with this technique, allows us to calculate

' r8 d' Z3 Q+ C+ eThis technique is extremely useful for finding coordinate squares on the Gann Wheel that
: ~; \9 f, O$ A8 {. E- ~are making hard aspects to a previous position on the wheel. Also, Gann believed that the
+ ~3 }; R9 r9 x m& Q' v2 X$ bnumbers that connected the square base of the pyramid (the 4 corners of the square, i.e.
( ]" j! x. [* z9 P/ P! {corner #'s.) to the “gravity center” and also the numbers that ran straight vertical and
( f8 J$ m* `# T' W1 }& Mhorizon tal from the “gravity center” in the form of a cross (cardinal numbers) were very
7 w) b8 g% j5 E! G/ D2 ]important in balancing “Price & Time” on the wheel. He was basically looking for
! m$ _5 f0 r+ D8 L/ b& B3 i, Iastronomical longitudes to balance with price on these key angles. Pythagoras said “
$ L# U, G. O9 K% F% f# o6 I* P+ @9 BUnits in a circle or in a square are related to each other in terms of Price & Time at
5 ?1 Y' b7 m- z, M+ U( S1 bspecific points.” Gann often quoted the Bible, Emerson, Pythagoras and Faraday to name

Time around the outer perimeter of the Square of 9 is a circle with months and days. The$ y, Y$ w/ q: o5 N' q
circular calendar starts on the left-hand side of the wheel on the same horizontal line as
7 }1 _0 `' ?- O0 w: y" ^the center block. The date is March 21st and refers to the start of the “natural” year in the
) f; |# K4 k& J5 R8 M0 _season of Spring with the Sun in Aries ^. “Lamb of God you take away the sins of the
) [, u8 y$ Q( V- |, G( y5 L6 G- h2 aworld” ( Spring takes away the sins of Winter). The dates move around the circle" d; @9 N; P) b, E \
clockwise completing the calendar. This relationship allows the user to quickly identify8 m2 S! d4 X! x2 U+ E: C, k4 {% Y
dates that are Conjuct, Opposite, Square, Trine or sextile to a past calendar date relative
% s2 s$ \# y+ }$ Wto the Sun / Earth relationship.8 F5 l' l, c5 r
. a/ I' y9 B( S3 hIn Gann's Master Course for Stocks he said “ Within the circle forms the square, there is% n- J9 \$ ^1 E" l3 M1 h
an inner circle and an inner square, as well as an outer square and an outer circle which: d* O5 b/ g1 C
prove the Fourth Dimension in working out price movements.” So far, we have covered
3 |- k# S& I8 t- vthe inner circle ( The Earth's Orbit around the Sun) and the inner square ( Historic high &( e0 w& C3 G1 q
low coordinates on the square itself). The outer circle includes all of the planets and is the
1 V* j( f2 a8 k. z0 bZodiac starting at the left side of the square also on March 21st. Moving from this point% e9 r, z8 d4 U; v
clockwise in 30 degree sections of the circle will place all 12 zodiac symbols around the
- G4 ~% q" G' v, D5 _wheel (^_`abcdefghi). This completes the outer circle and allows the analyst to examine
" W( Q8 v8 e& Wplanetary longitude relationships to price coordinates on the Square of 9, which is now an
) _# c1 V& w% h+ P( e% Zouter square. In this way, we can convert planetary positions to prices relating to degrees
+ {$ @/ j$ X0 R3 Z. V0 hof a circle (Zodiac longitude) and also to coordinates on the Square of 9. We can also

we can also use a first trade chart ( Natal Chart ), i.e. horoscope (another inner circle) to: I: u1 ?2 e3 q1 X' p0 g; M
locate sensitive longitude positions that are being aspected by planets from the outer

hinted about this natal horoscope technique in his Master Course for Stocks by saying “

illustrated this technique in his Soybean letter, which is well worth reading. I believe that3 T) s2 l( c. }8 R% V# g8 R
this is what Gann meant when he discussed “Natural Law”.

volume and direction. All the essential qualities of its evolution are characterized in its/ m' f; Q9 z$ N* @7 c1 I( K
own rate of vibration. Stocks and commodities, like atoms, are really centers of energies,( l8 _7 ]& J! w+ I: d2 Y
therefore they are controlled mathematically. They create their own field of action and
